Community Learning and Skills

Many students have said that going back to college would have been difficulty for them due to 'bad' experiences at school or family commitments. Without the YMCA, they would not have obtained their qualifications.

Pendeford

Opened in November 2006, The Dove Centre in Pendeford is the venue for Wolverhampton YMCA's Adult Learning and Learning Project.

The project, which offers a range of courses to people in the community completely free of charge and in a friendly neighbourhood facility, aims to support residents in making informed choices about learning and employment to enable them to achieve their personal and professional goals.

The project arranges work placements and provides training in workplace skills such as :

  • NVQ Business and Administration
  • Children's Care and Teaching assistant
  • Basic Food Hygiene
  • First Aid at work
  • Complementary therapies
  •  All our courses are professionally delivered by The City of Wolverhampton College, Adult Education Services and other qualified tutors as required.

The courses are exactly the same as those run at the college, except that we offer them to people in the heart of their community, right on their doorstep. Currently some 180 students attend courses at the centre.
